Mediation
What is mediation?
Mediation is a process in which a mediator, a trained neutral person, assists two or more persons in a dispute or conflict to communicate with one another, to understand each other with the purpose of resolving their dispute and reach a satisfactory and voluntary agreement.
The parties speak for themselves and make their own decisions. Mediators do not make decisions for the parties, do not recommend the terms of an agreement and do not provide any legal advice.
Agreements made in mediation come from the participants, not the mediator.
What are the benefits of mediation?
Mediation is less costly than going to court thereby saving the parties time and money. The decisions in mediation are made by the parties, not by a court.
Mediation protects the privacy of the individuals because it is a confidential process.
Through mediation you can state what is important to you and you can also hear the other person's viewpoint in a safe and respectful environment. Mediation aims to maintain and improve the relationship of the parties.
The parties work out the terms of an agreement in which solutions are created that satisfy each party’s needs and interest and that will work for everyone.
